Victoza is the brand name used for liraglutide in Europe. This drug is the first human Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 developed to be taken once per day in order to treat type 2 diabetes. It has only just received its approval for all of the states in the European Union for two uses:

Victoza is a new drug used for treating type 2 diabetes and has been found to promote weight loss in overweight and obese patients.
- As a treatment combined with metformin or one of the sulphonylureas among patients who suffer from a lack of glycemic control even after having tried the highest possible dose of metformin or sulphonylurea monotherapies.
- As a treatment combined with metformin and one of the sulphonylureas or metformin and one of the thiazolidinediones among patients who suffer from a lack of glycemic control even after having tried the dual therapy.
Clinical studies with Victoza that involved the participation of over 6,500 people suffering from type 2 diabetes demonstrated a notable decrease in blood glucose levels, allowing for weight loss without the a heightened risk of hypoglycemia. For this reason, it is now considered to be a beneficial type 2 diabetes treatment option and helps to further reduce the risks of the condition by allowing for weight loss.
The drug was first launched by Novo Nordisk – the manufacturer – within Germany, the United Kingdom, and Denmark during the summer of 2009, and throughout the second half of 2009 and throughout the year 2010 the drug will continue to be released throughout the rest of the European Union marketplaces.
The drug functions by only stimulating insulin release when the blood’s glucose levels are high enough to warrant its need. Weight loss is a very common side effect of this drug – one that is often considered very desirable, as one of the things that is most recommended to type 2 diabetes sufferers is weight loss in order to reduce the symptoms of their condition. It is believed that Victoza causes this weight loss because it decreases the speed at which gastric emptying occurs, so that the patient feels more satisfied after meals and for a longer period of time. The body naturally breaks down Victoza and does not need renal excretion for elimination.
Though the drug is not considered to be weight loss medication, it does include this side effect among one of the beneficial reactions that can occur when it is used in order to control type 2 diabetes – especially in cases where weight loss is recommended by the prescribing medical professional.

Hi
I started taking Victoza yesterday at .6 mg. I know this is only day 2, but I’ve had terrible acid reflux. Anyone else hav e this problem?
Steve, Yes I have had acid reflux and I started 5 daysa ago. That is part of the symtoms as you get an upset stomach. I am taking Tums to aliviate the reflux.
I am 50, type 2 diabetic, with PCOS. 5′ 5″, 225 lbs. My endo was doing NOTHING except writing me prescriptions while my sugars went up. Didn’t even take my blood pressure at my last visit so I tried a different practice. This doctor put me on 0.6 Victoza, to be increased to 1.2 then 1.8. In just 5 days, my morning sugars have dropped 50 points(!) and the neuropathy in my feet has lessened. I have no appetite at all, which is incredible for me as I overeat constantly. I have had headaches every day since starting the meds; hopefully those will abate. Saturday night I had some fatty food and was sick as a dog; guess I’ll really have to watch what I’m eating. I am praying this drug helps me lose some weight as well as control my blood sugar. Bonus, if my feet feel better I can actually start exercising! To anyone whose doctor is not really taking proper care of them, switch to another! I waited too long, was too lazy and it was convenient for me to have a doctor who didn’t really monitor me so I could continue my laziness. In the end, I was only hurting myself. Glad I found this site and I hope the Victoza continues to work for me. Good luck all!
Hi Carol: The reason I am writing to you is that me too I am considerally obese. I really need something to help me reduce my weight before it leads to problems. Idk where you live but i live in canada and the drug is very expensive. I was reading your comments and you said that it does not make you hungry and when eating fatty foods you became sick. I am diabetic and on insulin but am type 2. i can be taken off insulin as my weight comes down. Dr. is going to reduce my insulin to just Lantus at bed time and off the humalog that i have to take before meals. i do hope you success in your weight loss and myself i need the support. Good Luck, and God Bless.
Just an update from my last message I wrote. I started victoza on March 1, 2012. So far loss of weight is 11 pounds. Not hungry or craving foods. Having bouts of acid reflux. My first bout was hard. Constant nausea, throwing up and diarrhea. Over that now except the nausea. When I eat I eat only a little, not the way I used to eat. Two servings now is out of the question. Anything greasy is out of the question, I can’t stand the sight of anything greasy. My sugars have come down quite abit. I am up to 1.2 now so we shall see what that holds for me. Good luck everyone.
Hi Carol, glad to read of your success with Victoza. I have told numerous friends and neighbors about it because they can see my obvious success. I am down 50 lbs from my highest weight and intend to keep going. I suffer none of the side effects except possibly occasional fatigue. I too struggled with overeating all my adult life. Much of it was due to intense food cravings. I don’t feel hungry between meals and don’t need to snack if I have sufficient protein in my diet. I am a life-long lacto-ovo vegetarian but three months ago switched to vegan, eliminating eggs, milk, butter/cheese and all animal products. That may seem ironic, but it is surprisingly easy to get enough protein without using any animal food products. There is abundant protein in a plant-based diet, and easy to get info by Googling (or other search engine) vegan recipes/info. I am so happy. In addition to my weight my blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar have dropped dramatically. Good luck to you and all those who read this.
I started victoza in june 2011. Did the gradual increase of doses, and had mild nausea. I was also on 1000 metformin 2xdaily..by September I had heart arrythmias, mild at first, worse if I had a glass of wine.. Constant diarrhea, stomach cramps, and developed an unusual sense of an odor, as if someone was cooking something rank. I thought at first it was my neighbor, but no one else seemed to notice it. I then realized it was in my sinuses. I had headaches in the sinus area, also worsening heart palpatations. I lost very little wt. about 10 lbs in all. By October I was sure something was very wrong, had a pain in my side, urinated very seldomly, and noticed that my excrement and urine had the same odor that I kept smelling. I decided I was being poisoned by this drug and stopped taking it Oct. 20. My poop and pee still have a faint odor of this evil drug, and the wt came back almost over night. It is now Jan 2012 and this drug is still not out of my system. I can’t find ant info about it on line, but I did read that it can cause kidney failure, acute pancreatitis and arrythmias. Thi drug did not work for me and I am still feeling the effects from it. Fatigue was also a problem.
Hi All, well this is my story which sounds so much like all of yours. I was first put on Victoza a year ago but it made me so sick I felt sick just brushing my teeth and tasting the water. I could hardly drink any water, so I quit taking it, I just got tired of being sick.I lose weight. I didnt gain the weight back I have kept it off. I have been ask to go back on Victoza so today is my first day and I will try and come in once a week to let you know how I feel. God bless everyone lets get our bodies in shape in 2012.
Can someone tell me, Is there life after Victoza? What I mean is after you loose the weight that you needed to loose, can you stop taking Victoza and not gain back weight? Thanks for any knowledgeable responses.
I have been using Victoza since it first came to the US. My Dr is a world renouned Diabetes Dr and put me on it. I was actualy one of the first users in the US. When I first started using it, I noticed my apetite had decresed quit a bit. (which was great since I was 285 pounds) I started dropping pounds, got my blood sugar under control. I was also on Metforman (1000mg twice a day) So, now that I have been using it a few years, I have noticed I have more of an appetite, I’m starting to gain back some wieght. and the Dr has now put me on insulin (Lantus) and uped my Victoza dosage to 1.8mg I am wondering if after a period of time, the Victoza stops working. Has any one else had this issue?
Have not been successful with Actos(mouth swelling), Byetta (not happy with results-no weight loss). Doctor gave me 2 sample pens of Victoza last month, just started 2nd pen this week at 1.8mg I have had only one bad incident at the beginning – I overate – and was miserable for the rest of the day. I learned my lesson. This is a good product for me, I think it’s main draw is the weight loss factor. By the way, I went to the doctor today and I have already lost approx. 10 lbs.
I have been on it for one week. I was told to take it in the morning. Last week I had a little nausea, but the upside was that I was not hungry. I also take metforman 2x a day. Breakfast is the meal I enjoy the most, coffee, water w/lemon, 1/2 bananna, whole grain toast and an egg. I try to have a yogurt for lunch, and dinner consists of veggies and a protein and the portion size has dramaticaly reduced. I have no desire for a snack at anytime and have lost 8lbs. My only concern will be the cost, I have no idea what it will be. Hopefully my insurance will cover most of it. My blood sugar has been consistant in the low 90′s and my AIC’s have been always right on.
On the Victoza website you can get a discount card to use at the pharmacy. This definitely helps with the cost. It is covered by insurance but really expensive without it. With my discount card and insurance, I only paid around $25 for three months supply.
I have lost 12 lbs since I started. I did however get a very bad bout of nausea and vomited for 18 hours. I don’t know if it was the “bug” going around. My husband ate the same things I did and was not sick. Back on Vitoza today, hopefully can continue to loose some more weight.
I too have been nausated all day long. I just started taking v 1-4, have just reached the starting .6 dosage. Unfortunately, the right side of my nose and under my eye have swelled really bad and am on an antibiotic now. Also, the lower left side of my back is extremely sore. We do not now for sure if it was v or not. I am now off v until all clears and will try again. I did lose 10 lbs in a week. Not sure if being sick all the time is good, since I haven’t evev got up to the 1.2 dosage…….does anyone else been sick and it finally went away.
Anyone here who is not Diabetic but is taking Victoza to lose weight? Please share your experience with me? How much do you lose in the end? Any difficulty?
I have been on Victoza since March 18, 2011. I am not a diabetic but I am insulin resistant and have PCOS. It has been a great weight loss drug for me. I have lost 60lbs since I started in March. I have had some bouts of nausea but not anything that I couldn’t live with. There have been times that I thought it was no longer working but obviously it hasn’t, as I am still loosing weight. The nausea for me only lasted a couple of days after each time that I my dosage was raised. I now take the max 1.8 and have no problems. If I miss more than 2 doses I can tell because I eat more. It truly supresses my appetite. I still eat some of the same foods as I did before but just not the large portions. I really don’t want sweets anylonger – I can still eat them but in small amounts. I hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi everyone. I’m new to this site and also new taking victoza. Started my first dose tonight. I am feeling a lil nauseous tho. Hopefully my body will get used to it and I can start losing some weight. I’m 32, 310pds, type 2 diabetic and have severely high blood pressure. Will check back in with my results weekly
I am new to Victoza as of 1/9/12. I weighted at 238.1. I don’t eat red meat, and only eat what fits in a 12 oz styrofoam cup at each serving. I drink lots of water and will soon start my fitness program. I weighted on 1/13/12 at it was 233.1. Weighted this morning and it was 232.4. I am taking 0.6 at night before dinner, which was my craving time and biggest meal eating with my family. I hope this works. Just 4 years ago I was a gym rate, weighing 160 lbs. at 5’6. Started working FT, and put myself last. I will keep you posted, love this website.
just i wanna know what will happend vactoza with smoker person becouse my husbent he wanna start vactoza doese it work with him or no???
Hello everyone. It seems everyone on Victoza has been experiencing some form of nausea and fatigue. Here’s how I’ve been tackling these symptoms. I take my shot every night at 7 pm. I try to eat at least an hour before taking my meds. I drink a lot, lot, of water. I think it helps flush my food. I keep crackers and warm ginger ale on hand to settle my stomach. By taking my meds at night I sleep better and avoid the fatigue during the day. I’ve also been taking a vitamin cocktail loaded with B vitamins under the supervision of my doctor and that helps with my energy. High fat foods just don’t work with Victoza. Salads, veggies, lean meat, oatmeal and grains really seem to help. Also, you’ve got to invest some time in exercise. All you’ve got to do is walk….its that simple. I’m too old for all of that other stuff….
Thanks for sharing your experience, Vicky…I appreciate hearing everyone’s stories and solutions.
Vicky S. Thanks for your post about taking Victoza at night. Sounds like a great idea and I intend to switch to nighttime tomorrow to see if the fatigue feelings decrease. You can read my post above. Good luck to you!
Thanks this helps me so much with making my decision on when to take the meds
Hi everyone. Seems like we all experience some kind of nausea. I’ve been on Victoza 1.2ml dose daily for 13 months now. I lost about 15 pounds in the first two months. I feel better than I have in years! But over the last two months, my weight is increasing and my skin feels puffy. Anyone else had this experience? I feel like everything is going in reverse. I also take my shot at night. Would it help if I took it in the mornings? I assume the Victoza is taken with other diabetic meds as a dual therapy….so I wouldn’t recommend taking if you’re not Type II diabetic on medication.
been on victoza over a week now .since i went to 1.2 i feel nausea.i;m dealing with it cause i know it will go away soon.gonna try taking it at nite around 730 pm.was reading the comments here .looks like we are all eating less .but was wondering is that good too? i know that being type 2 arn;t we suppose to eat ? and if i don;t eat my sugars go high too.i;m not a big eater at all but i must eat something ….help.
Susan W. Does your health plan allow for consultation with a nutritionist or dietitian? Call your doctor immediately and ask for a referral or some diet suggestions for your eating plan. You must eat. Do not try to avoid all carbohydrates or “good” fats, but start eating at balanced diet NOW. Yes the nausea will decrease, and the decrease in appetite is good, too, but you cannot starve yourself and hope to succeed on this medication. Good luck. Your success if up to You.
thx patti .i;ve been on it now for about 6 weeks .lost 9lbs.but on 1.2 dosage .am getting cravings alot now ans can eat almost everything .i live in canada and yes our medical plan covers it but still for 3 epi pens we still pay 50.00. i eat normal now .was wondering if the weight lose should be more ? my doctor says not to increase it ;cause we don;t know enough about the drug yet .
Hi, I just started taking Victoza a week ago, and already lost 5lbs. I’m happy with that, but I’ve felt too weak to work out, and have had a hard time finding motivation to do even basic tasks. Also, my appetite has decreased to the point where all I can ingest is milk. I’m supposed to increase my dosage to 1.2 tomorrow, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to handle any more nausea. Does anyone know how long it takes for these symptoms to subside? Kinda debating on if the weight loss is worth the side effects.
takes about three weeks but nausea will go
I just started 0.06 last night. I am not diabetic, just over weight…5’1…160lbs. So my dr gave it to me for weight loss. I am sooo tired and nauseous. Not hungry which I guess is the point, but I have to work and take care oft family. Don’t think I can hack this for a week
Hi, I started taking Victoza 0.6 2 days ago, so far I have had no feelings of sickness at all, my nurse said fat would make me feel sick, so am avoiding it like the plague, but i still feel quite hungry at times, am i not eating enough? I have cut down a bit on the amount I normally eat and have not been snacking at all, any idea’s on this anyone else felt like this?
I have a terrible keyboard with a jumping cursor so must be brief and carefull, and have lost my last two attempts to the void.
I’m 59, 317 lbs, broken back, pulled shoulders, fused ankle, can’t work out much.
On 1000 mg metformin twice daily for a year, no change, with glucose regularly in mid 200′s and about 200 waking/fasting.
Started Victoza 8 days mgo, at .06 ml, today upped to 1.2 ml.
So far, I’m down to 308, from 317, have lost 9 lbs., suffered no ill effects so far, felt mild desire to eat less, but am eating less.
Glucose has dropped down to 140-150 average, with waking glucose yesterday 125, today 144. Average glucose 2 hrs after starting dinner is about 140. But a significant drop from mid 200′s.
No ill side effects so far. Works for some I guess, not for others.
Seems to be a wonder drug, as far as I’m concerned. But only 8 days so far. Updates to follow.
I’ve been taking Victoza for one month now. Started at 0.6 dose and increased to 0.9 one week later. The impact on my fasting blood sugars was immediate. They were usually 120 – 145, and dropped to 85 – 99. I’ve lost about 5 pounds. The 0.9 dose came with all the noted side effects but I found the tiredness the worst. By the second week of the 0.9 dose I wasn’t waking up until almost noon!
The endocrinologist recommended that the dose be reduced to 0.6. Most of the side effects have subsided, but my fasting blood sugars are now 100 – 130 again. Also, the appetite suppressant effect is now minimal. Hmmm…what to do?
I am a type 1 diabetic and morbidly obese. I have begun Victoza and in two weeks I have lost 3.2kg without even noticing really that I’m eating considerably less. I’ve had no side effect other than just eating less. Hopefully it will carry on working this way. Fingers crossed.
Hello Everyone. I enjoyed reading your positive stories about weightloss. I started taking Victoza today 1/19/13. I am not a Type 2 diabetic. I am hoping for some weightloss results. I will continue to post my progress. Good luck to you all. Lauren
Hi today was my first dose im overweight and pre-diabetic. i’ll kep you guys updated.
Hi…I am new to this website. I started taking victoza 3 days ago, 1st day I had terrible nausea and I vomited. I have some acid reflux (more than usual). I am eating ALOT less and have no cravings for sweets. Since Tuesday I have dropped 8 lbs. So for me, if it continues to help me eat less and lose weight I am staying on it. I up my dose on this Tues so we will see how my body handles that. I am all for it…. For me anyway!! Good Luck to eveyone!
An update, I had minced beef with onions gravy and veg on Thursday for dinner, everything was fine, there was some left over so decided to finish it for lunch today, i had a few mouthfuls and found i felt really sick, started to gag, I guess it was a bit too much fat, as id didn’t do extra veg with it. still get hungry though, what am i doing wrong any ideas please
Go lighter..a few strawberries..a small bowl of yummy cereal..a half of bologna n cheese sandwich..some almonds..just lighter and little portions. This med almost wont allow us to eat like we normally do..I can’t either..I go small and often But still eat the things that I love.just lighter and A LOT less.GOOD LUCK!
Ok, just increased dosage to 1.2 last night before bed, feeling pretty terrible. Can’t keep anything down, getting pretty dehydrated. Not sure what to do….any suggestions? Does it still keep appetite down after nausea wears off?
Been on Victoza for 3 weeks now….AMAZING! Taking 1.8 of the Vic and 1000mg of Met and I LOVE it! My sugars have gone from in the 400s to normal I actually saw a 106 this morning! Lost 25 lbs, don’t crave food every second of the day and when I do eat, I can actually walk away without finishing the plate. OMG!
I know this drug is not for everyone and I am sorry for anyone who has bad reactions to it – my doc said it might not be for me, but it is and I am thanking God!!!
If you are not seeing an actual endocrinologist for your diabetes, please find one and make an appointment – it makes ALL the difference!!!
ARE YOU FOLLOWING A DIET OR ARE YOU EATING THE SAME.
I JUST STARTED MY VICTOZA AT .6 FOR NOW THEN MOVING TO 1.2IN A WEEK THEN 1.8
ON MY SECOND DAY AND FEEL NO SYMTOMS.
HOPEFULLY I WONT FEEL THE BAD SYMTOMS
Hi everyone, I’ve been on Victoza since April 2011. I weighed 285 back then. I’ve lost 35 lbs (without exercise). I know if i worked out I’d probably be down a lot more. I was also taking 750mg of Metformin 2x daily but cut that back to once a day cuz of bad diarhhea. I also take lantus. So far so good. I now suffer from Gastro Paresis though. It’s okay and I could deal with it. I used to get very sick when I first started the Victoza but I’ve learned I can’t eat fried foods, too much coffee and no Chinese food. I live in cereal, eggs, tuna, chicken, veggies. Its a new way of life for me but when i remember how my A1C was over 12 last year and now it’s 6.1; I’ll be the last to complain. BTW- I still treat myself to regular desserts and Ice cream. Believe me, the nausea will pass. Good Luck!!!
I am post gastric bypass 7 years, not a diabetic, lost 135 lbs with gastric bypass, have now gained back 35 lbs and would like to lose that 35 lbs. No health problems. Is anyone out there had gastric bypass and taken this drug?
My Endocrinologist put me on metformin 2,000mg a day along with Victoza .06. My blood sugar is stil high. I was on Janumet but was switched to this combination. I read the horror stories. I decided to proceed. This was my first day of some nausea. I’m about 38lbs overweight. The goal is to get my blood sugar where they should be. My a1c had bee 6.4, 6.8 then 7.1. Thanks for letting me post. I’m totally new at this. Everyone that has posted, have been an Inspiration to me.
On V since 3/2011. Have lost 18 lbs but at a standstill. Take 1.5 and increasing the dose now. Any suggestions to get the weight loss started again. need to lose another 15 lbs…..Discouraged!
TDC, I also had gastric bypass {9 yrs ago}. I lost 75 lbs and gained it all back within 18 months. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 3 months ago and was started on Byetta. I lost almost 30 lbs and love the drug. However, my insurance no longer covers Byetta, so my doctor started me on Victoza yesterday. I am anxious to see how this drug comoares to Byetta, which I never had adverse side effects from. I will post again as things progress.
I started .6 V Dec 3rd and have experienced all the the symptoms… Nausea/constipation/acid reflux/fatigue. One side effect that has been bothering me is all types of smells bother me. Just yesterday I had to stop drinking my ice water because I thought it smelled like wet dog ( no one else thought it smelled funny). I have lost about 15 lbs and just increased my dose by 2 clicks because I haven’t lost anything in 2 weeks. The fatigue has subsided and I was able to run 4 miles yesterday without the feeling like I was going to pass out. Will keep checking in on this forum. Good luck everyone!!!!
hola a todos… acabo de empezar a usar victoza para perder peso, yo no tengo diabetes y la verdad tengo miedo de usarla, pero me han dicho que es muy buena para el control de peso, alguien sabe si trae consecuencias despues de usarla?
TODAY IS MY FIRST DOSE OF 0.6 FOR A WEEK
THEN 1.2
I READ ALL THE NAUSEA HORROR STORIES. I ALWAYS FELT I HAD A STOMACH MADE OF STEEL.
I GUESS I WILL PUT IT THRU THE TEST.
IM 224 lbs will check in a week
I thought that to my friend..uhh.It’s not all good..BUT!Ive lost thirteen pounds..yes I feel like i need a constant barf bag around my neck..but eat well..alkaseltser helps..I’m up to the third dose..It’s hard..I had to go back down to the second dose..Doc.gave me phentermine..even more appetite suppressant help..But the fact is ,this stuff works..It’s not at all pleasant, but they say the nausea will dissipate in time..uhh..ok..whatever..wishing you GOOD LUCK.
My doctor just put me on Victoza yesterday – I, too, take metformin. I woke up with a headache but this is not unusual for me. I will check in once in a while here to let everyone know how I am doing with this drug.
I am not diabetic either but my doctor determined I was insulin-resistant and in danger of having metabolic syndrome. I am overweight but had begun to lose weight on the Atkins diet. At 20 pounds lost she upped my Metformin to 1000mg a day instead of the 500 I had been on for four years and added Victoza. I began one month ago at the .6 level and have just been instructed to up it all the way to 1.8. Since beginning Victoza I have lost another 10 pounds. I have about 70 to go. I am hoping that all of this aggressive treatment is my doctor’s way of keeping me from becoming diabetic. However, my insurance carrier doesn’t like to pay for a non-diabetic’s diabetic medicine! So, that is more incentive for me to lose the weight, keep it off, and stay on the Atkins way of eating…Atkins/South Beach…whatever…just monitor carbohydrates and eat only low-glycemic ones. I had nausea to begin with but it eased off over time. I had to remind myself to eat, however! It really does kill your appetite!
hi, been on victoza for five weeks. endo started me out with .6 and one week later 1.2 — it has not been easy. i can’t even look at food on tv – it makes me nauseus – forget the ajada! i’ve been diabetic for 13 years, controlled – my aics run 6.2 – 6.3. i was on byetta but complained of tasting and smelling the lizard (as it is called), so endo changed me to victoza. ~~~ it is now 4 weeks later, i am down about 10 lbs and my poor stomach is at last calming down. ~~~ i am listing what has helped calm my stomach as far as food goes; maybe it will help someone else. ~~~ PORTION CONTROL is vastly important! victoza likes small portions. i have found for BREAKFAST/9am that victoza loves oatmeal/farinacream of rice, with 1/2 steamed apple and no-sugar maple syrup (i use lo-fat yogurt in place of milk, or a tsp of any nut butter to add protein to the breakfast meal), also i found an egg on toast won’t disagree with victoza. LUNCH/2pm is generally 5 hours later (quite a stretch for me), i have 1/2 sandwich of leftover chicken, a pb&j on 1 slice of toast and with 1/3 banana cut up on top, it is quite substantial, or veggies with low fat dip, along with a thumb-size of cheese and a small piece of fruit. DINNER/7pm is generally after everyone else has eaten because i am not still not very hungry. I usually end up having a cup of home made (brothy) soup — chicken/ham/ or beef, with lots of veggies and barley. i make it the day before and lift off all fat from the top when it cools. my treat at night is a low-sugar cookie with a smear of any nut butter and two tble spoons of ice cream on top. it quiets my craving for something sweet. ~~~ must say i like victoza and how my appetite is supressed. my ideas are working for me. please listen to your body and work out for yourself what victoza likes to eat. if you work with your food, maybe your dr won’t have to fix the digestive problems with more medications. even though it was so unpleasant for such a stretch, it has now made my life more pleasant.
Thank you Sharon..I agree.Victoza LOVES small portions..something I became VERY unfamiliar with..Now.Food is SOOOOO GOOOD.I eat what I love, BUT in very small portions..I had a very small plate of Blackend Chicken Alfredo yesterday..unbelievably good..with a small piece of garlic bread.I was satisfied AND felt happy.NOT DENIED or disappointed in the taste.I DON’T recommend eating this high calorie food every day.BUT..results showing…thirteen pounds LESS..You can eat the things you love..just less..Keeping in mind, a small work out NEVER hurt anyone. Most of us will be BATTLING this ALL our live.and NO ..Its not fair..So that being said.WE must be GOOD to ourselves..WE love food. Food is GOOD..WE just have to be a better friend.
Been on v since Nov 30th not eating much and blood sugars under control but have only lost 4lbs, not a big loss like others, think I have lost inches or bloatness anyone else feeling this way.
You may not be eating enough food. To lose weight you have to nourish your body so that it can burn calories. Sounds ironic but it’s true. Ask your dr. to refer you to a nutritionist. You can succeed!
My Doc gave me Victoza today and I am a little nervous about starting this medication. I am already on Metformin 1000mg 2xdaily and he took me off the Actos that I have been on for nearly 8yrs. now. I have gained almost 85lbs. since finding out that I am type 2 diabetic and started taking Actos. I am so anxious too see if I will loose weight I am so disgusted with all this weight gain. I just pray that this med. works for me not only in lowering my blood sugars but helping with weight loss. I will keep everyone posted on my progress.
DON’T freak out!U are your WORST ENEMY! I started on .6 on the the 20th of January. I have fought the nausea and occasional diarrhea. I have lost six pounds and happy about that. I move to 1.2 today and dread what might happen. Good luck to you all.
Hello everyone..I’ve been on V for one month.I’ve lost thirteen pounds At first I am a type two.I lost 50 pounds before and sadly gained back 30 of it.I developed SEVERE yeast infections and felt ill all the time..I’m doing MUCH better.Last week My doctor integrated Phentermine in with the other pills.Metformin, lisinopril, and a diuretic.I was taking the full dose of “V” and the phentermine but was unable to tolerate the constant nausea..I went down ti\o the second dose and just half the phen..I feel better..NOT hungry AND I have energy to do a small workout.EATING RIGHT helps..even if your NOT hungry, you must eat something that’s nutritious. You’ll feel better.Alka seltzer helps with the nausea..
HAS ANYBODY FELT THEIR THROAT HURTING WHEN YOU SWALLOW KIND OF LIKE IF YOU TONSILS ARE SWOLLEN.
No. However, I do believe that is listed as a possible side effect.
I was referred to v by a cousin. She started taking v approx 18 months ago…I visited with her today and her weight loss is 72lbs (size 6). Initally, she experienced the same problems expressed by most of the you especially the nausea. However, she changed her outcome by taking the injection at night before bed & she cut out fatty foods. She eats a sensable diet in small portions. She has also increased her daily activity…mostly walking. She has increased energy levels and feels wonderful.
I am a type 2 diabetic and started v tonight @1.2…I am looking forward to the weight loss hopefully the 100lbs I’ve gained over the past 20yrs. I suffer with arthritis & joint problems…I hope the weight loss will at least get me back to walking and build up my energy level. I am retired military, therefore, no stranger to a good workout…I am looking forward to posting my progress and while on this journey to success!
I’m glad my cousin inform me of the correct way of using v., after her unfortunate experience of weeding out the bad. Remember, weight loss is considered as a side effect, if you continue to eat as you always have (fatty, fried foods etc), hence your weight gain (clashing). Instead, turn the effects of v into helping you change your way of thinking about eating healthier foods, increasing your energy and exercise more, hence weight loss.
I will try to post weekly of my progress/experiences…Good Luck to you all…
BTW…I am 53yrs old. I’m excited about v…hope to be one of the lucky ones and have no side effects.
I am interested in how your cousin found the right way to take victoza?
Hi everyone,
I am on my 2nd dose of victoza at .06. I am a bit light headed and feel a bit of a headache. So far no nausea. I am hopeful that this will help in my weighloss journey. I am lucky that our drug plan covers the cost. In canada it will be about $500.00 per month.
I just finished the first week of Victoza at 0.6 and can say I felt really well the whole time. Only once did I have a very brief queasy feeling in the stomach shortly after the injection. And to boot, I lost a little over 5 pounds!
I was terrified about injecting myself, but after the first two days… no problem—- don’t even feel it!
Today was my first does of 1.2 and I was wondering if I would feel anything different, but that was 8 hours ago and have had a great day so far!
I am looking forward to this journey!
