Victoza Use for Weight Loss

Victoza is the brand name used for liraglutide in Europe. This drug is the first human Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 developed to be taken once per day in order to treat type 2 diabetes. It has only just received its approval for all of the states in the European Union for two uses:

Victoza is a new drug used for treating type 2 diabetes and has been found to promote weight loss in overweight and obese patients.

Victoza is a new drug used for treating type 2 diabetes and has been found to promote weight loss in overweight and obese patients.

  • As a treatment combined with metformin or one of the sulphonylureas among patients who suffer from a lack of glycemic control even after having tried the highest possible dose of metformin or sulphonylurea monotherapies.
  • As a treatment combined with metformin and one of the sulphonylureas or metformin and one of the thiazolidinediones among patients who suffer from a lack of glycemic control even after having tried the dual therapy.

Clinical studies with Victoza that involved the participation of over 6,500 people suffering from type 2 diabetes demonstrated a notable decrease in blood glucose levels, allowing for weight loss without the a heightened risk of hypoglycemia. For this reason, it is now considered to be a beneficial type 2 diabetes treatment option and helps to further reduce the risks of the condition by allowing for weight loss.

The drug was first launched by Novo Nordisk – the manufacturer – within Germany, the United Kingdom, and Denmark during the summer of 2009, and throughout the second half of 2009 and throughout the year 2010 the drug will continue to be released throughout the rest of the European Union marketplaces.

The drug functions by only stimulating insulin release when the blood’s glucose levels are high enough to warrant its need. Weight loss is a very common side effect of this drug – one that is often considered very desirable, as one of the things that is most recommended to type 2 diabetes sufferers is weight loss in order to reduce the symptoms of their condition. It is believed that Victoza causes this weight loss because it decreases the speed at which gastric emptying occurs, so that the patient feels more satisfied after meals and for a longer period of time. The body naturally breaks down Victoza and does not need renal excretion for elimination.

Though the drug is not considered to be weight loss medication, it does include this side effect among one of the beneficial reactions that can occur when it is used in order to control type 2 diabetes – especially in cases where weight loss is recommended by the prescribing medical professional.

Just started this med today. Thankfully with my double insurance coverage, I had a zero co-pay. I’m nervous about the possible side affects, but need this to get my blood sugars under control. My morning fasting numbers were peaking at 233-234, and during the day the numbers were bouncing all over the place, even with Metformin, and other meds that I’m taking. A change is needed, and I just pray that this is the needed change. My weight has peaked at 269 which is the largest that I have ever been. I pray that we all have a powerful testimony with this one. Thanks for the support! :-)

i’m 44 – type 2… taking 2000mg of metformin and 10mg of ramipril… i was diagnosed 1yr ago with type 2 diabetes. i was on medifast last yr and lost 40lbs in 3 months, felt great!!! Sort of slipped and went back to my old ways of eating… After experiencing blood glucose of 500 – up… my dr decided to take drastic measures. This is my third day on victoza and the nausea has subsided. my appetite has been supressed and i have to force myself to eat and i’ve lost 4.0 lbs already and glucose is 270, YAY!!!. i did experience a slight headache and upset stomache along with loose stool. if i eat too much i feel sick and if i don’t eat enough i feel sick too. i’m on the medifast diet again, and noramlly i can eat my soup/oatmeal 4-6 oz. but this time around i can only eat 1/2 of that so I eat 2-3 crackers so that my stomache won’t get upset. I enjoy reading all of the comments and experiences all are having. keep GOD first and keep it all positive. I no longer want to be obese/fat… i want to live a healthy lifestyle so that when the time comes for me to be a grandma i can enjoy my grandchild/ren. i wish you all the best… stay healthy!!! will give an update next week.

Hi Dolly, your case sounds so much like mine. I would like to be pen palls / email palls. I have PCOS, hypothyroidism, and I just finished my first week on the med, the low dose. I go up a level tonight. So far, no nausea, but I take it at night, doc said that helps people on the med. I started my diet at 328 lbs, and I should be around 170. I am 5′ 8″ and feel miserable. Can’t get the weight off, no matter what I do. I am encouraged by this medication.

I am so happy I find this blog!!! I just started Victoza yesterday and I am very excited. I am pre-diabetic with an a1c of 6.0 and weigh 292 pounds. My Doctor and I are hopeful that this will help me to lose weight and keep me from becoming a diabetic.
I would like to ask everyone their opinion on taking the shot in the morning vs taking it in the evening before bedtime, and if taking the shot in the morning, do you eat breakfast before or after the shot. I am also curious about your opinions on taking the shot in the stomach area vs. the thigh. I have started out taking the shot in the morning in the stomach area. So far I can tell that my appetite has decreased tremendously! I have not gotten sick, but do feel just a tab of mild nausea. I did read an entry here about having some anxiety? I hope this will not happen. Please, look forward to your opinions.

I take my injection after or before supper, that way when med peaks, (if it does?)I am asleep during the worst of it. I had a little nausea in the beginning, but have now only if I go too long between meals. I have only lost 5 lbs and I have been on it for a month now.I also have PCOS brought on at menopause, blood sugars are normal. I do have a stuffy nose and sneezing as did a few of you last month.

  • Xeniah

I’m going on my first week taking Victoza, I have had some nausea but it is tolereable.
My next Dr’s appointment is on July 30 and I am hoping to see some weight loss results by then. The one great thing is that I feel full wihout eating as much, I will continue on 0.6 dose for two weeks and then I will consider to increase. Another great thing is that with my Insurance my co-payment is only $25.00 which makes me real happy. Best of luck to everyone!

Been on Vic for 3 months now and have lost 25 pounds!!!!! Still get sicky feeling sometimes but its manageable. This has been a miracle drug for me! I eat healthy now like a normal weight person. Still losing weight, but its slowed way down to about 1 to 2 pounds a week. As long as the general trend is downward, I’ll take it!

  • vicki

just started victoza and my sugar droped to 119 last night and hadto eat something to bring it up i do not feel hungry but a little sick feeling and a mild headach am going to try it for a while and see how I feel next week. do not like the side affects it can cause but will stay withit for a while and see how things turn out

  • Sandra

I am three days into the 1.2 dose of Victoza and I am delighted! I usually have a HUGH appetite and now I feel like a normal person who can eat a little and put it away. Side effects have been minimal. At 5’2″ and 240 pounds I have hope again for a life without sleep apnea and aching feet. After one week of Tx, the scale has moved down three pounds. What a novel thought, the scale moving down. I thought it only went up.

  • Robin

I am glad to have found this site. Started Victoza last Wednesday, tonight will be dose 7. Had a headache all weekend, now it makes sense. Today started with diarrhea. Couldn’t take byetta was allergic, so far so good on this. Switched from Janumet didn’t do any good. Maybe will weigh myself tonight.

  • Lisa R.

Took my first dose of 1.8 at 7pm (after dinner). It is now 10:30pm and so far, so good. Just have a slight headache, but is ok. I am diabetic (Type II) and am quite overweight. Numbers are good, but could be better. I am currently 5’2 205 lbs. After reading previous posts, I’m excited about the possibility that this med may cut my appetite as well as assist me with weight loss. Maybe I will eventually be able to stop taking blood pressure meds. Will update one week from today.

    • Nett

Are you on any cholesterol lowering drugs? I was on Lipitor and my arms went weak and had to lay them on pillows at nightbecause of the constant pain. I was switched to Zocor, but no relief. Took three months after discontinuing all “statins” befor the symptoms went away.

  • Dee

I find that if I drink more water, my headache symptom disapears. When I don’t feel like eating I find I also don’t drink enough water! Good luck to us all. I have lost 4 lbs in the first week and I am not even at the 1.2 level yet.

  • Rita

I started Victoza about a month ago and Im still having side effects. I ve been a diabetic for about 13yrs +. Im pushing to stay on it for the benefits. I have not been on the scale since I started but I know I dont each as much as I use too. I shoudl say I cant eat as much as I use too. Im lucky I currently have 2 insurance carriers, between the 2 I only paid $20 for 3 month supply, plus needles.

I’m on 1.8 a day. The last time I was on the scale was at 498lbs. We will see what happens.

    • Rebecca

I doggedly kept on the Victoza for 10 weeks of every side effect known to man, including the most horrible sulfur burps. Finally it subsided, and now I am 15 pounds lighter, my blood pressure improved, and my A1C is the lowest it has ever been in 25 years of fighting diabetes. Hang in there. I also had the weakness and exhaustion. Try some B and D vitamins. They seemed to help me get over it.

      • Pat

I am glad to hear that your side effects finally subsided. I am in week 5 and still experiencing a “fluttery” stomach, and lots of burps. I’m wondering if dropping back to 1.2 for a bit would help. I did a week each at .6 and 1.2 before staying at 1.8. I promised the doc I would give it a full 3 months to see if my A1C droped. Thanks for the enouragement.

  • Jasmin

I have posted here before. I am now 4 months into taking Victoza, 1.2 mg every night. Morning blood sugars around 88 mg/dl.

Just got my latest blood test: my HbA1c has dropped from 8.7 to 5.5!! My weight has gone down by 17 kg! I still need to lose a lot of weight, but this is a huge difference. My appetite is much smaller and I usually just have one warm meal around lunchtime and a small salad with protein at night. I am never hungry and sometimes forget to eat.

The weight loss has hit a plateau though, the last 6 weeks no change. But my doctor reassures me that on his super science scale he can see that I am still losing weight and gaining muscle.

I am now trying to move more and go to aquagym classes and work out at least once a week to build muscle. I also have dumbells at home and sometimes do 10 minutes of exercise before I go to bed. Nothing drastic, just trying to keep my muscles awake.

I am really impressed how much my life has changed. I have a lot more energy during the day, like I am a different person. But if I forget to take Victoza then the next morning my bs rise and I feel drowsy and tired all day. So all these years when I thought the stress of life was making me tired it probably was a mostly just an undiagnosed diabetes.

    • Leslie-Ann

      Hi Jasmin,

Ive been reading all the post on this site and have found everyones comments very encouring. However, something about your comments struck a cord with me and hope that you can e-mail/pen pal from time to time to let me know of your progress.

I am 36 years of age and was diagnosed with T2 Diabetes when I was 18. My sugar levels up to this past weekend would rise to 21….just ridiculously out of control! I saw my Endo back in september and he perscribed Victoza….its been sitting in my fridge for the past three months, out of fear about the side effects. However, after reading everyones post, I was encouraged to give it a try. I don’t know who I am going to respond to this medication, but know that my life requires a total change. I have started to change the way I eat and have become a little more active. Any support from you guys and gays would be most appreciated. Take care and God Bless.

  • Michael

Started Victoza 3 weeks ago. Progressed from the 0.6 to 1.8 a couple of days ago. So far, 2 days after increasing the dosage I have been really nauseated. I am super bloated and my stomach is sour. Lots of burping. Ugh! Can anyone tell me if this decreases over time? I feel like I am full all the time and I am able to eat less than half of what I used to and be satisfied. I just want my stomach to settle. Any ideas?

    • Rebecca

I, too, had the burping which my doctor insists is acid reflux and not the victoza. This is bull feathers. I had to avoid anything greasy. However, after a few months, this has quit. Good luck. In the end it was worth the agony.

    • Judy

Hi Michael, I can totally relate to what you have experienced. I started Victoza on 8/23 at the .06 dose and had no real problems to report. I may have felt a bit nausea at times, but too mild to count. After one week I increased my dose to 1.2 and started having the sour stomach symptoms. On the forth day the bottom fails out and I am sick as dog. I did not take any dosage the whole day being as sick as I was, could only tolerate ginger ale. Today I am better, weak, but no nausea. I called the Doctor and he told me to cut back to the .06 dose and then try going back up to 1.2 in another week. So far so good. As for Rebecca’s comment on the “Reflux”. I have been taking Previcid for over 10 years now, 30mg, it has always controlled my reflux hands down. I really think the sour stomach, reflux type symptoms are related to the Victoza. I can only imagine what the symptoms would have been like had I not been taking my daily dose of Previcid. My Doctor seemed to know that the reflux issues would be a possible side affect with Victoza. When I asked him about how to two meds would work together his only comment was, hang on to the Previcid, you are going to need it.

Today I weighed and I have lost a total of 14.8 lbs in 12 days. Mind you of course yesterdays bought with the sickness, all and all I am thrilled with the weight lost. I hope I can continue.

    • Denita

Michael take some gas pill. Believe me it helps. You may have to take two at first then one a day.

    • judy

I take pepsid ac when I go to bed , that is also when I take my injection. It helps a lot. thanks

  • Jerry

I started Victoza on July 22nd. So far I’ve lost 5+ lbs, and my blood sugar, which was 170 to 180 (with metformin and glyburide) is 80 to 90 fasting. This evening, I had a kid’s meal burrito at Taco Time, and it was almost too much, but 2 hours later, my BS is 110. That is scary!

I HAVE to lose weight as I was 295 lbs when I started, and I should be 180. A ways to go. Also, I’m 63 and was diagnosed Type II 3 years ago, when my A1C was over 11!!!

WELL, LAST WEEKEND I DECIDED TO STOP VICTOZA FOR THE WEEKEND BECAUSE I WANT TO DRINK COUPLE OF BEERS, WELL I HAD NO DESIRE OF HAVING A SECOND ONE AFTER MY FIRST BUT ON MONDAY WHEN WENT BACK TO VICTOZA GAVE ME THE WORST REACTION VERY DIZZY SLEEPY, HAD TO TAKE AN HOUR BREAK FROM WORK GOT VERY NAUSEOUS..WELL ITS FRIDAY AND EVER SINCE MONDAY I FEEL GREAT STAY ON IT!

  • Marie

Love Victoza…it has been the answer to my prayers. I started Weight Watchers in August of last year and started Victoza a couple of months ago. If you get nausea eat 2 saltine crackers and it’s over with. I have lost 52 lbs since last August…you have to have a diet program for anything to work. The shot helps control your sugar you have to control the eating. Planning is so important.

  • Ladydi

I am not diabetic. I do need to lose about 50 lbs. Can this be administered to me by myself or a physician? I have tried everything with no success and am miserable. Not overweight enough to have bypass surgery or I would do that.

Look forward to something that will work.

  • Linda

I have been on victoza for 10 days, it seems to make BG is a little more stable, but the nausea and tireness are getting to me. I was on .6 dosage for 7 days and now I am on 1.2 . I swiched from mornings to bedtime yesterday but still a bit nauseus. My main concern is how do I adjust my insulin( I am on a pump). I am tring to figure out how do I change the meal bolus so I don’t remain too high or go very low. Does anyone have any sugesstions. I am going to a pump educator later this week but untill then I would lide to know, Does anyone have experience with victoza and a insulin pump.

    • roger

linda you should check yourself and then just do it manually as you need it when the pump tell you how much u need then override it

    • Anna

      Hi Linda
I am also on a pump. My endocrinologist suggested that I adjust the basal units as well as the bolus. (He said to drop the basal units by .05 at a time for time slot). I am rather nervous about this drug. I guess I read too much into the side effects and get scared. I don’t like the cancer warning they have printed on the leaflet.

  • Dean

Started taking the .6 dose of Victoza on August 1. Appetite went down quite a bit. Today is the third day on it. Have a mild headache, but it’s not unmanageable. Plan to stick with this as long as possible. I have been a diabetic for 16 years and recently blood sugar levels have been rather high. A1c 8.1. Since taking Victoza I have seen a significant drop in glucose numbers. Also, I am not as hungry as before and I do hope to see some weight loss.

  • kate

I have been on Victoza for about three months, and my A1C has dropped from 9 to 7.6. I’ve lost 10 pounds, with no side effects. I was at the 1.2 dose, and now my doctor has increased it to the 1.8. I really hope this improvement keeps up. My insurance pays everything except $30 for 2 pens. In addition, my doctor removed me from the metformin due to digestive problems, and there’s been no adverse reaction in my numbers.

  • margaret carr

I have been taking victoza since july 17th in the morning along with my lenemir, humalog. and metformin. so far i have lost 16 ls. and the doctor has cut my insulin in half. the doctor says eventually I should be able to get off the insulin altogether. The only side efect i have is some burping, mostly at night- but i can live with that- and more gas than usual..

  • Cathy

I’m back, last time I wrote was July4th, I’ve been back to the endo doctor, my #’s have come down dramatically. I bottomed out 2 days, with #’s of 46 & 61, very scary, I’ve never had sugars this low. My doc say go slowly if you have nausea, I have the queasiest stomachthis side of the mississippi. I keep saltines by my bed to eat before i get up in the a.m. Doc also says don’t take a big jump from 1.2 one day to 1.8 the next day. Take all the increments in between 3-5 days for each increment. I’ve lost 5lbs, hurray. I feel successful, & great energy when I’m not nauseous.

  • Farhad

    Hi Judy:
i started Victoza a few days. My MD thinks this drug is a miracle drug. The stomach area has the least nerves so it is the most common area to take the shot with no discomfort, and take it in the AM it will have a a better effect and take it as soon as you’re out of shower before breakfast.

  • Denita

I finally saw my Doctor after three months of Victozar. My A1C went from 11.00 to 7.2 boy was I excited. My weight was the exact same. Not that Victozar helps with cholesterol but my cholesterol level has gone from 250-278 to 136. Oh yeah baby. I was only at .06 for the last three months. My Doc told me go to 1.12 and I should lose some weight. I have been at 1.12 for a week now and have not lost an ounce. But I am happy. I wish everyone of you well on your A1C, low low low how low will you go? :)

  • ROGER

well, another sid effect on this medication its lots of burping, also if i eat anything seems like my system doesnt processed it very well, and burp kind of bad taste but theres nothing rolaids or tummys cant fixed! keep up everyone

  • judy

Hi has anyone thought about buying their Victoza from canada. I see it is 285.00 for 3 pens. I wonder how long it takes to get it and if it is shipped safely. If anyone has had any experience with this . I would like to hear about it. My insurance does not pay for this drug. It is working great on my blood sugar and I am finally loosing weight after 57 years. I am not willing to give it up. thanks

  • Lola

I just started Victoza yesterday.. I went on google to research the meds after my visit with my dr yesterday and found this site. I took my second dose today and I am feeling really tired.. and didn’t feel hungry yesterday. Could just be me and not the meds yet. I have been diabetic for about 6 years and took metformin with bad digestion issues and would go on and off of it on my own because I could not take that side effect. I was taking onglyza with actos for the past 2 months without much success. My sugars were running over 300 after the last round of meds they did drop to 275 for my highs but after my visit yesterday he took me off the onglyza and put me on the victoza in the afternoon and actos when I first get up in the morn with my breakfast. My weight was 163 at the docs office yesterday and I am 5’1 so I hope it will help with weight loss as well as my BS. My A1c is a 9 currently. I look forward to my follow up in 30 days to see if there has been any change. Good luck to all on this new med.

  • Debi

    Hi all,
I have been on Vic for over two months now. Started at .6 for 1 week the 1.2 for two weeks and then 1.8. I did experience the side effects. But I was determined to make it through the 5 week adjustment period. Honestly, I still have waves of nausea, but it is getting better and still have emergency runs to the bathroom. On the other hand: The 1st thing I noticed on this was my energy had increased and my appetite had decreased. Initially my FBS was 100-130, now its up again (not to where it was previc) 150-170. I take it at 11 am. and take Lantus solo star at 7 pm. I think I will adjust Lantus to 10 pm and see if that helps. I have lost 20+ lbs. I wish you all luck with this new med. So far I give it a thumbs up! I beleive many live could have been saved or changed had the last generation had this treatment.

  • Wanda

I have been on Victoza since July 21,2010. Just have gone to the 1.8 dose. I am still nauseus and having headaches. Down a few pounds. I am going to try to keep up regiment until going to the doctor on the 19th of August. I noticed that several were taking stomach medications to offset the side affects. I am taking shot at night hoping it will help. Any good advise regarding getting use to the side affects and dealing with them?

  • Wendy

I am at day 4 of the .6 dose of Vic. I have been nauseous, had a headache, and I am sooooo tired. But I can definitely tell my appetite is much less. I don’t have the crazy cravings I normally have. I am so hopeful that this medicine will help me because I always thought I was just out-of-control which made me so depressed. I am pre-diabetic, so I definitely want this weight to come off and stay off. Does anyone know how long the tiredness lasts? Also anyone had a side effect of a back ache in the kidney area? I know that sounds strange and it is probably a coincidence, i just thought I’d ask.

  • Von

I am just about to start on Victoza. I picked up my prescription today. I’m type II and have been for about 15 years. Here’s my problem: I hate needles. Even taking my blood sugar readings bothers me. Can anyone give me some advice on administering this medication? Which is better evening or morning? Where is the least painful location to take it? Does it hurt? (Guys are pansies, I know). How best to do it? Any other recommendations?

    Thanks in advance,

    • Tiffany

Von, I know what you mean about not liking needles. I found that if you do the injection first thing in the morning and get it over with you are good for the day. The best place to inject is the upper part of your stomach area. Pinch about an inch of your body fat and hold while you insert the needle/pen. Shouldn’t hurt that much if you do it that way. Let me know how it goes, good luck and take care.

    • judy

Take the shot in the soft part under the navel about 10 inches wide under the center of naval. Do not jab it in just put it to your skin and push in, it does not hurt. I also take it at night, that way I sleep thru the side effects. You will still be tired for about 2 weeks anyway.

  • Tahmina

Hi everyone, i am on Victoza now for 2 months blood is dropping but i am gain so much weight……i been on 1.8 dose since i started because i was on byetta before. I think i like byetta more (excluding the fact that i had to take it 2x a day). Can anyone advice or let me know if anyone is having the same problem as me. Experience/advise would be appreciated.

  • Sylk

Hi there, I have been on Victoza since July 17/10. I am on it for treatment of PCOS. I am not on any other medications or test my blood sugars, so I can’t speak to that, but I can speak to the side effects.

My Dr told me that the medication in most effective in the first 12 hours, so I inject in the morning. I find the stomach /side to be the least painful (away from the belly button). Von -I find the best way is to pinch the skin and insert the needle gently at a 90 degree angle, then depress the button without moving the needle.

In order to minimize the effects, I started on a dose of 0.6 for 1 week, 1.2 for 1 week, and then 1.8; the gradual increase made it easier for me. I did feel very tired for the first 2 weeks and needed to take a nap, but that has subsided now. I was a bit nauseous in the beginning and I had some stomach cramps if I ate too much red meat. Now, I find that I only feel nauseous only when I go too long without eating so I try to eat small amounts about 3-4 hours apart to avoid it. I’ve noticed that if I eat right after taking it, I can ward off the nausea. I am certainly not hungry, I can only eat small amounts and my cravings have gone down – sometimes I have to force myself to eat a bit. I also find it very important to make sure I get all my fibre and enough water everyday to avoid constipation cramping. I had metallic tasting burps for the first 2 weeks as well, but was able to control those with Tums. Wendy – I didn’t have any back pain, are you getting enough water? If so, you might want to mention the pain to your Dr.

4 weeks in, I notice that my energy has increased, my clothes are a bit loose and I feel like my body is responding to food in a more normal way (back to the way I was before my PCOS started). I would encourage anyone to push through the initial adjustment period, be gentle with yourself during that time and try it for at least 1 month. Now that I have, I am quite happy and comfortable with what it is doing for me. Good luck, and take care.

From what I have experienced taking the shots it has helped me to use the mini needles. I was given some longer when I got my prescription and I had to return them for a shorter length(5MM) I think. As far as the tiredness I am still experiencing it, but my doctor says that when I am adjusted it will increase my energy. I have been on 1.8 for a week now and sickness is getting better.

I am not diabetic but is obese weighing 110Kg. My doctor suggested Victoza but informed me that it is given for diabetic+overweight. He is not 100% sure and hence asked me my opinion whether I am interested in taking it for reducing the weight only. Is there any one who is also using Victoza only as weight loss drug? What is your experience? What was the dosage and how long did you take. Thanks for all replies.

Hey. My doctor has just prescribed me Victoza for weight loss as well. Lets help eachother and keep eachother updated. i also don’t check my blood sugar but am really hoping it helps. I started injections this morning :)

Hi, I am on day three of Victoza and am experiencing extremely blurred vision. I hope this is a fast leaving side effect because my sugar numbers have dramatically dropped in just three days. I also have the other fun side effects, nausea, loose stools, and burping. My six year old son thinks its cool, but I am not pleased with the gastric upsets. I want to stick it out, any suggestions?

Well I have been on V for 18 days today. I have been taking it at night to avoid the tiredness and has helped a lot. I lost 8 lbs the first 13 days and felt full all the time . Loved it , Well yesterday about noon I felt very hungry and ate a lot more than I had been able too, even though I had moved up to 1.3 from 1.2 on the way to 1.8 a little at a time. I decided to go back to mornings to see if that would help. So this morning I took 1.4 and still am eating too much very little appetite control today and sleepy like before. I hope it goes back to the ball in the stomach feeling soon or I will have to come off even though it has done wonders for my blood sugar. My insurance does not pay for it and I will have to quit when I run out of samples. I was hopeing this was the miracle drug but I am not sure now. I will post more next week . thanks Judy

I’ve been using Victoza for over 3 months and have lost 25lbs. I probably would have lost more if I kept using it consistantly. I take a water pill with Victoza so I won’t feel bloated and it works. I also, take januvia since the metformin gives me really bad stomach cramps. These combination has been working great. Trust me the water pill helps.

OOOops, I forgot to mention I also take levemir and Humulin R only on a scale when needed for higher sugars.

The shots will not hurt if you use a .25mm x 3/16 needle..this is the shortest needle I know of. I just pinch me a 1 inch roll of fat below the belly button to the left or right and ease the needle in slowly…..most of the time it does not hurt. Every now and then
you hit a spot that stings for a second but this is rare.

Ihave been on Victoza for about 3 months and I call it my wonder drug.My blood sugar was running in the high 300′s and I am taking 2000 mg of Metformin a day. I was also taking 40 units of Humalog i5 minutes before each meal and 180 unit of lantis at bedtime. Now I still take my Metformin, but now I am on the sliding scale and at night only use 40 unit of Lantis. I have to be very careful of how much Insulin I take now. I have lost a total of about 35 pounds. I do have some acid reflux, but nothing I can’t handle. The only thing is that my insurance co. WHICH IS HUMANA will not pay for this and now I am on the quick pens and use 2 of them and the cost is 295.00 which I cannot afford. My doctor is keeping me in samples now.But I know that this is saving my life.I just cannot understand why your insurance will not pay when your doctor tells you that you have to have this medication.
