Weird Diets That May Actually Help You Lose Weight

Weird Diets that work

High fat diets work because they throw the body into fat burning mode when combined with very low carbs.

While you may have heard about healthy and unhealthy diets, most people are unfamiliar with the weird diets that are also making the rounds. Interestingly, these diets do have a fan base, including celebrities, and may actually help you lose weight. On the other hand, most of these diets appear to be restrictive in nature, so you might not be able to keep your motivation up for following them to the end. But that doesn’t mean you can’t give them a try. Here are some weird diets that can help you lose weight:

The Potato Diet

The potato diet is among the weird diets that may particularly interest potato lovers who not only love the taste of potatoes but also relish eating them owing to their low glycemic index and their nutritional qualities. The executive director of the Washington State Potato Commission, Chris Voigt, has also benefited from this diet and lost 9.5 kg in 60 days after eating 20 potatoes a day. Moreover, it also helped him improve his cholesterol and glucose levels. Experts are of the view that potatoes, a rich source of starch, provide energy. However, excessive consumption of these in the absence of other starchy foods can’t provide adequate nutrition.

The Sugar-Free Diet

The sugar-free diet proposed by Davina McCall in her book Davina’s 5 Weeks to Sugar-Free emphasizes cutting out foods like simple carbohydrates, refined sugar, and processed foods from your diet. It encourages the consumption of low-glycemic foods that break down slowly and therefore are a source of slow energy release. Experts agree on the food choices this diet proposes but disagree with the version that also calls for cutting fruits from the diet. Moreover, experts also believe prevention should be started from childhood, as children who are obese are likely to grow into overweight adults.

The High Fat Diet

The high-fat diet is also among the current weird diets, and celebrities like Kim Kardashian are rumored to have followed this diet to get into shape. This diet entails low carbohydrate and high fat intake and is also known as the ketogenic diet. The body, in this diet, does not burn carbohydrates but rather burns fat for obtaining energy, a pattern that can be termed similar to fasting. This burning of fats inside the body produces ketones. However, what remains unclear is whether it is the high ketones levels or low glucose levels that contribute to fighting dementia and obesity.

Experts are of the point of view that too much fat consumption is linked with an increase in cholesterol levels and weight gain. Moreover, it can also give rise to heart diseases. Though reports suggest eating bilberries helps overcome such disadvantages, still there is no conclusive evidence that supports this.

Though these weird diets may have gained popularity and can actually help you lose weight, be careful should you choose to diet in such ways.
