Tenuate is a brand name prescription drug, which, as a generic, is known as diethylpropion. Although not as commonly prescribed as other prescription diet pills in its class, such as Adipex, this weight loss drug acts in  similar manner by stimulating the central nervous system. This stimulation results in an increase in blood pressure and heart rate, which dramatically lowers the appetite and at the same time increases the body’s ability to burn fat.

There are two different forms of Tenuate diet pills available: immediate-release tablets branded as Tenuate and controlled-release tablets branded as Tenuate Dospan. Your doctor will determine which version of this drug is right for you. This weight loss medication been developed to be used over the short term, in conjunction with a proper diet and exercise, in order to treat obesity and lose weight.  It is not prescribed for mere cosmetic weight loss, but is instead intended to help individuals who must lose weight in order to decrease their risk of certain serious health conditions that have been connected with it, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, or high cholesterol.

Is there an effective alternative to Tenuate diet pills?

Phentramin-d and Phenteramin are powerful non-prescription support pills for overweight dieters not seeking a prescription obesity treatment like Tenuate.

Although many people seek to reap the weight loss benefits of prescription diet pills like Tenuate, only a small percentage of them are eligible for a prescription from their doctors. This is because prescription diet pills can pose serious health risks and are only effective for short periods of time, making doctors hesitant to prescribe them unless absolutely necessary. Moreover, they are prescribed as an obesity treatment and are not meant for casual or cosmetic weight loss.

For many overweight people who are unable to get a prescription for a weight loss drug, Phenteramin and Phentramin-d diet pills are the best option. These two non-prescription diet pills are very helpful for dieters who are following a healthy weight management strategy.  They support dieters in making it far easier to pursue their goals.  Moreover, they are AFFORDABLE TO BUY, NON-PRESCRIPTION, and have  NO SEVERE SIDE EFFECTS. This makes them a much more appropriate choice for most people who need extra help losing weight, but do not need to take prescription obesity drugs to do so.

How should Tenuate be taken?

Listen to your doctor’s instructions carefully before taking Tenuate, so that you know that it is being used properly.  If you have any questions about this medication or how it should be taken, ask your pharmacist, your doctor, or your nurse right away.   Do not take this drug until you know that you will be doing it properly.

Typically, each dose of Tenuate should be taken with a full eight ounce glass of water, on an empty stomach, an hour before eating your meals.  You may also be prescribed a dose in the evening in order to prevent hunger pangs during the night.  Though it is important to follow the instructions of the prescribing doctor, Tenuate is most commonly taken three times per day in its regular-release formula, or once per day (usually in the middle of the morning) when taking the sustained-release form.  Those sustained-release pills should never be chewed, opened, or crushed.  They must be swallowed whole in order to function properly, as their development allows them to be long-acting and if that is broken, then the medicine will enter the bloodstream all at once, instead of slowly throughout the day.  Tenuate should be stored in a dry, room temperature location.

What else should you know about Tenuate?

As a prescription drug, Tenuate is a serious medication and must be understood before it is taken.  For example, before taking part in any potentially hazardous activities such as operating heavy machinery or driving, strict caution must be taken.  This is because there are some side effects associated with this diet pill, such as blurred vision, dizziness, and restlessness.  Moreover, even if you are extremely tired, the symptoms of this condition may be hidden by the drug.  Get to know how this pill affects you before taking part in any hazardous activities.

Furthermore, you should speak with your doctor about the habit forming nature of Tenuate.  You can become psychologically and physically dependant on this weight loss pill after only a few weeks, and withdrawal symptoms can occur if the use is discontinued improperly.  Your doctor will likely advise you regarding the gradual stopping of this medication.

Who should not take Tenuate?

As effective as Tenuate is for some people, it is not the right solution for everybody.  The following may mean that you are not the right candidate for the use of Tenuate:

  • If you have a condition that hardens the arteries called arteriosclerosis
  • If you have high blood pressure or heart disease
  • If you have glaucoma
  • If you have a history of abusing drugs or alcohol
  • If you have taken an antidepressant in the monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAIO) group within the last two weeks (14 days)

Though you may still be able to use Tenuate, you should discuss the following with your doctor:

  • If you have an anxiety disorder
  • If you have thyroid problems
  • If you have diabetes
  • If you have a seizure disorder such as epilepsy

Your conditions may not stop you from being able to take Tenuate, but it will help your doctor to chose the appropriate dosage and monitoring so that you can use the medication safely and effectively.

What side effects could you experience from using Tenuate?

There are a number of potential side effects of which you should be aware before you start taking Tenuate.

Seek medical assistance immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

  • Allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, tongue, or lips, closing throat, breathing difficulties, or hives
  • Confusion, abnormal behaviors, or hallucinations
  • Very high blood pressure (possible symptoms include blurred vision or severe headache) or an irregular heartbeat.

Other side effects that may occur but that are less serious include the following.  Should you experience them, keep taking Tenuate as prescribed, but talk to your doctor right away about how to proceed:

  • Anxiety or nervousness
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Tremor or restlessness
  • Sleeplessness or insomnia
  • An unpleasant taste in the mouth
  • Dry mouth
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Changes in sex drive such as impotence

By educating yourself about Tenuate, you can be sure that you are working with your doctor to take it safely and for its maximum efficacy.

I bought tenuate online last year and tried it for 6 weeks. I lost weight at first but then the effects wore off. After stopping taking it I gained most of the weight back.

I took Tenuate a couple of years ago and had a terrible reaction to it. My whole face swelled up and my skin developed a terrible rash. I wouldn’t recommend Tenuate to anyone. It is dangerous.
